Celebrating the Grand Launch of PETRONAS Leadership Centre!
It was a memorable Sunday night on 11 June 2023. In a captivating blend of Leadership, Innovation, Sustainability, and a relentless pursuit of excellence, PETRONAS Leadership Centre (PLC) unveiled its renewed purpose complemented by a new campus, marking a momentous milestone in PETRONAS’ journey of nurturing world-class leaders for a sustainable future.
Excitement and anticipation filled the air as guests, dressed in their best Batik ensemble, started to arrive at 6.30pm, welcomed by a delightful cocktail reception that set the mood for the evening. The event saw PETRONAS’ past and present leaders who contributed to PLC, coming together to celebrate the hard work and dedication in bringing the new aspirations alive. It was a perfect blend of commemorating past successes and envisioning the future of leadership under the aegis of the new PLC campus.
Senior Vice President of Group Human Resource Management (GHRM), Puan Farehana Hanapiah’s welcoming remarks painted a vivid picture of the Leadership Centre’s journey and the significance of this launch. She playfully acknowledged that PLC was also the place where some met not only their learning partners, but also their life-long partners! Following her warm introduction, Datuk Adif Zulkifli, EVP and CEO, Upstream, engaged the attendees with his insightful remarks, highlighting the new pillars of PLC and the crucial role it will play in furthering PETRONAS’ vision.
Datuk Adif and Puan Farehana together with Encik Ruslan Islahudin, CEO of PLC and Head of HCD, then officially launched the new PLC. The great unveiling showcased PLC’s new logo and purpose; Leading with Purpose, Accelerating Progress through a mesmerising performance that deployed holographic images, while introducing its three pillars; Leadership, Innovation and Sustainability. Invoking a sense of nostalgia and pride, the audience were also taken through the journey of leadership growth within PETRONAS.
The atmosphere was electric as Ruslan began his address with a Chinese proverb. “Drinking the water of a well, one should never forget who dug it.” A sentiment that resonated with everyone as it encapsulated the gratitude towards those whose relentless efforts from years back shaped the future for PLC. He emphasised the significance of honouring past leaders, whose visions culminated and were represented by the new PLC. He also highlighted exciting new initiatives, including personalised development opportunities powered by Artificial Intelligence (AI) and talent analytics, a renewed focus on executive coaching, and a shift towards more autonomy in shaping individual learning journeys.
The evening held a special place for the eBook, ‘A Part of Me,’ a compilation of leadership narratives of PETRONAS leaders. Ruslan identified these stories as a guiding light, embodying PETRONAS’ growth journey and core values, a testament to the timeless wisdom of those who have served PETRONAS.

As the event drew to a close, a sense of gratitude permeated the room. To the team behind PLC, the special guests, and all the attendees who made the evening truly memorable, Ruslan extended his heartfelt appreciation. His words encapsulated the profound purpose of the evening, “As leaders, we have been bestowed with the great responsibility to serve as beacons of guidance and inspiration.”
PETRONAS Leadership Centre’s launch strengthens PETRONAS’ commitment to a future powered by leadership excellence. As the new campus stands tall, PLC reaffirms its dedication to cultivating a generation of leaders, equipped for the challenges of tomorrow. The launch carried with it significant new milestones, including the opening of the Discovery Centre and the launch of the first PLC corporate website (www.petronasleadershipcentre.com).
